It is always a good thing in our profession, or for those of who are in the non-profession, to stay anonymous on the web. One of my favorite tools for this is called socks chain. Many would argue that tor is the best, and i am here to tell you why socks chain is better than tor. Let's begin with tor and what it does and does not do.
Tor
Does:
provide a proxy through one or two computers on the tor network.
ease of use.
Does Not:
Provide true anonymity.
allow for new proxies to be added and changed.
Socks Chain
Does:
Provide true anonymity by connecting through hundreds of servers at once.
Allow for rapid change of proxy servers, and updated servers at the click of a button, and drops invalid proxies.
The way it works...
Socks chain works by connecting to hundreds of servers at once, chaining them together in a manner that it is impossible to track back to the computer. Lets think about this for a minute.. Someone performs an attack on a remote network. What do you think would be easier to track, 2 servers with a chance of neither of them clearing their logs, or over a hundred servers that auth would have to contact and retrieve server logs? The chances all of those servers having the logs still in tact by the time someone requested them is slim to none..
