With the wave of new users coming in from here to our quaint little server, we have decided it's time to lay down some guidlines for you all.. Please do your best to follow these guidlines as doing so will allow you to have the bestest IRC experience EVAR!!!111oneoneonetwothree. And now, on with the guidlines.

#1: Asking for Cracks / Warez.

same rules as here apply. DON'T FUCKING GODDAMN DO IT. Doing so in the main channel will cause Julie teh Bot to become upset and kick you. for the first offense, no ban time is applied, but further occurences will result in a ban. simple enough, don't do it.

#2: Patience is a Virtue.

just because someone doesn't come to your aid seconds after you ask your question DOES NOT MEAN that no one cares about you and your problem. we are normal people much as yourselves (well, maybe not all of you are normal, but at least some of you are so we'll go with that) who have normal lives and normal jobs. we don't sit in front of the screen waiting for the next big thing to come across xchat/bitchx/irssi/whateverircclientwechoose. people idle in IRC, it's what we do. we'll check in when we get time. so stick around for a bit, someone will answer you when they get time.

#3: Spam Spam Spam Spam Spam Spam Spam Spam Spam Spam Spam Spam Spam Spam Spam Spam Spam Spam.

don't freaking spam our channels. there's nothing we hate worse than spammers, except maybe dwarves that run around dressed like elves during christmas time, fuck holy shit, those guys are creepy. but yeah, copy pasting your question/comment/whatever multiple times in multiple channels will do nothing but get you g-lined from the entire server.

#4: Bots.

while we don't mind the occasional bot, they are not allowed to stay in the main #astalavista channel. if you have a bot you want to test out, feel free to make your own channel and do all the testing you want in there. we don't need any bot battles between julie teh bot and 'dougie teh new bot', that shit bullshit gets complicated and downright confusing when they start talking back and forth. julie teh bot will always win though as she goes back longer than a great portion of you all.

#5: IRC is a Privilege, Not a Right.

just like your local 7-11, we reserve the right to refuse service to anybody. if you do some ole' dumb shit horseshit, time won't be wasted, you will be gone. simple as that. act like you want to be there and have a purpose and all will be well.

Following are a few examples of unacceptable situations...

Rule #1:

<kloj> hi to all
<kloj> i need to crack a program to get rid of its trial period validity or registration etc
* Julie has kicked kloj from #astalavista (Bad word detected. (*crack*) :: [Sun Nov 1 08:25:55 2009] - Banned 0 minutes :|1546|:)
* kloj (kloj@52E7CA.EE8A2D57.7DBB2118.IP) has joined #ASTALAVISTA
<kloj> ok
<kloj> is there any one to help me
<duder> not with that, no
<kloj> but y ?
<duder> because coders need to eat too
<kloj> i respect all of them
<duder> if you like the app, pay for it
<kloj> and i know, they must be paid
<duder> or find a free / open source alternative
<kloj> i dont say that, i dont want to pay
<kloj> but c,
<kloj> its out of my range to pay for the program that i want
<duder> then i guess you don't really need it
<duder> and this conversation is over
<duder> o/
<kloj> i think, first you should learn, how to speak with others.
* BSDGurl sets ban on *!*kloj@*.EE8A2D57.7DBB2118.IP
* Julie has kicked kloj from #ASTALAVISTA (Banned)
<duder> lol

If you aren't familiar with IRC, a common question is registration of a nick.

* Pick a username that isn't being used by another person and a strong password that you would like to use.
* /msg nickserv register password em@ail.com
example: /msg nickserv register h3lpm30k!n33dit* teamrocket@crimesyndicate.com
* Please keep your password safe and remember the email you used to sign up with.
* DO NOT SHARE OR LOSE THIS INFORMATION

If you would like a vhost

* You have to be registered first.
* /hs request new.vhost.here
example like this only whatever words you want:
/msg hostserv request i.am.l337
* You wait for someone to approve it. That maybe up to a week depending upon how busy the ircops are.
* /hs on or you can do /msg hostserv on
* You can then do /cycle (or /hop on mirc) if you want to show it off.

These are well tested instructions. If they don't work for you, try again without typo.

Can't that all be just summed up with the following two points?

* Use common sense! And don't be stupid!
* IRC = Idle Relay Chat

I guess anybody new to IRC will also find the following command useful

/msg nickserv help

one would think so, yes, but as soon as people connect to IRC, their brains sometimes just drop right out of their heads. so i find it best to try and break everything down barney-style in the hopes that their level of retardicity remains low.
