I have heard that it is possible for Windows 7 running on a 32 bit system can "see" considerably more than 4GB of RAM.
Can anyone please let me know how this is done ?
I also want to do this on my laptop as well.
Thanks

I don't think it's possible... It's the 32-bit CPU registers that can't access memory in the address space that goes beyond 2^32 = 4294967296 (4GB). The registers simply can't hold higher values... Can't see how Windows 7 or any other operating system should be able to change that.

Thanks Talant but, if you try Googling the topic, there appears to be a way of achieving just that. The only problem, despite YouTube posts to this effect as well, none of them are explicitly clear enough for the subject to be included in the Dummies for Dummies series
Will see if there are any other respondants.
Regards.

Some 32-bit servers have special addressing capabilities that permit more than 3 Gb. But I do not know of any Windows 7 computer that provides this capability. So over 3 Gb only gets used in Video and like hardware.
It is pointless anyway. I can carve answers out of granite years before any 32-bit system will come up with the same answers. 32-bit died 5 years ago. So get a 64-bit computer, add all the memory you want (16 Gb normal maximum in workstations or laptops) and get fast speeds to boot.

Thank you for the tut; I'll give it a go.
Hmm....having read that, think I'll just go out and buy a 64bit system. Easier, cheaper, quicker
Thanks everyone.
