To answer most of those questions all at once: learn Assembly. Assembly is the machinecode, the 1's and 0's and their meaning for the processor, and you'll need a really good understanding of how that works before you'll be able to reverse engineer games and other software, in order to figure out how they protect their products. As for the surveys, it's all a way to make money. The cracker set up an account, and get's some money for each filled out survey. It's the same with all those ad.fly links,where you have to look at some commercial for 10 secons before you can skip it. For every hit some kid can coax people into going to, they get a few cents, which quickly adds up to sometimes decent money.

Making a key gen in Vb is really simple..

Create a text box, and a button bellow it.

Name the button Generate.

And then write a list of serial keys as a code for text box.. then write the code for the button (to display a key at rundom) and you are done.. thats how most key gens are written.. they dont actually create a key for you, they just give you one from the list.
